Hi there,
Once upon a time I saved my husband's life..
For months I nagged Brendan to go to the Doctor because I did not like the look of the weird looking mole on his neck. In the end of course, I had to make the appointment myself.
He was diagnosed with a Stage II Melanoma, which was already borderline and showing signs of moving towards Stage III. We were advised by our Doctor that he was extremely lucky it was detected. Should my dear husband chose to ignore my worries for another 3 - 6 months, it would have been categorized well within Stage III, where the lymph node involvement begins with potential spread to his organs. In other words, he probably wouldn't even be here today.
Of course he had to have this surgically removed by a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. Six weeks after that, further tissue had to be removed as the area affected was a lot larger than expected. We had a 5 month old baby at the time & we were all scared. He now has a pretty good scar to show for it!
Since moving to Far North Qld, I worry even more than I used to. I still nag Brendan to make sure he is seeing the skin specialist for annual check-ups. However I also know how lucky we are. So many aren’t so lucky so I thought I would put my worrying into something useful and have registered myself and the boys for the Melanoma March 2018 so we can try and do our bit to make a difference! My goal isn't much, but every little bit for the Melanoma Institute of Australia counts & I will donate as well. I have created a fundraising page for the Melanoma March. Through here you can easily show your support too by making a secure donation. If money is tight, I totally get it so would appreciate it if you could share my page or comment so more people know about it.
